Zerona can painlessly zap away fat

Last Update: 10/25 9:25 am

They say the last ten pounds are the hardest to lose, and some problem areas never really get better. Now there's new hope, with a laser treatment you can have on your lunch break. It's called Zerona, and it's a low-level treatment that zaps away fat and is painless.

24-year-old Monica Raney sees a fit and trim figure when she looks in the mirror, "I'm pretty healthy. I work out. I take care of myself."

But there are few stubborn areas where she'd like to lose some inches, "Abdomen, outer thighs, the typical areas that women have a hard time toning up."

So she's gettng a series of six treatments from a low-level laser called Zerona. It pops fat cells and allows that fat to be released like normal waste. "It's for someone that's about 5 to 10 pounds overweight and can't get that last stubborn bit off," says Dr. Gergory Nikolaidis.

Doctors recommend patients get a series of six treatments in a two week period for maximum effectiveness. The treatment takes 40 minutes, 20 minutes on each side of the body. "I can just lay in there under the laser and can sleep. You can't feel a thing," says Monica.

Dr. Nikolaidis says Zerona's effects are permanent - as long as the patient maintains a healthy lifestyle, "We're measuring inches. So on average, patients in our practice are losing about six inches."

Monica says Zerona has additional positive side effects when it comes to maintaining her healthy habits, "It just makes you feel good, puts a little pep in your step."

Patients should avoid alcohol and fatty foods during the two weeks they are having treatments. The series of six Zerona treatments run about $2,500 to $3,000.
