CWT announced that they have accepted another 154 bids into their lastest round of herd retirement programs. Chris Galen of National Milk reports that during this fourth herd retirement round in the last 12 months, another 26,412 cows and 517 million pounds of milk will be taken out of production. 
Back in December of 2008, CWT's economists estimated that we would need to remove between five and six billion pounds of milk to get supply back in line with projected demand. 
Since that time CWT has held 4 herd retirement rounds reducing cow numbers by
more than 250,000 head and milk production by nearly 5 billion pounds.
