Pork Industry Looking for Help

Last Update: 10/24 11:43 am

The U.S. Pork Industry shared its story on Capitol Hill this week and the picture they painted was not a pretty one. In testimony before a congressional committee
economists and farmers noted that pork producers have lost on average $23 per hog on every hog they have sold for the past 24 months.
Don Butler, the president of NPPC requested that the government purchase more product, just like they agreed to do for dairy, and distribute it to food pantries and other food service programs. He also asked that the federal government work to open more markets to U.S. pork and also work with the banking industry to help producers extend their line of credit.
Butler said the industry will survive this current crisis but needs the governments help to do so.
