De Pere soccer wins shootout, advances to D-1 Semifinals

Last Update: 10/29/2009 6:13 pm

Sophmore Cole Holewinski was stellar in goal, and his teammates came up big when it counted in a shootout, as the De Pere Redbirds defeated Eau Claire Memorial in a Divsion 1 State Quarterfinal at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee Thursday.

The contest was scoreless through 80 minutes of regulation, and 2 10 minute overtime periods, as Holewinski and Memorial keeper David Kite each were unrelenting.  Then, in a penalty kick shootout, Holewinski stopped 2 of the 4 shots he faced, while the Redbirds were a perfect 4 for 4.  Junior Jacob Chamberlain scored the winner, sending De Pere to Friday's semifinals against Madison Memorial.
