The Green Bay Blizzard have a new owner, and will play arena football in 2010.
Jeff Royle, owner of the Green Bay Bullfrogs Northwoods League baseball team, announced at a press conference Thursday afternoon that he has officially purchased the Blizzard. He also announced the team will play in the Indoor Football League starting next year.
The Indoor Football League was created in 2008, via the merger of two other indoor leagues, the Intense Football League and the Continental Indoor Football League. Expansion this season should push league membership to 23 teams in 2010, according to IFL commissioner Tommy Benizio, who was also present at Thursday's news conference. Another expansion franchise will be in La Crosse, coached by Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer Gilbert Brown.
